On Thursday 30 January we were delighted to welcome students from Westside School in Gibraltar and three of their teachers to the Casa de la Memoria. Andrés Rebolledo and Juanma Pizarro explained the content of the permanent exhibition to them, including the fact that the people of Gibraltar played a hugely important role in rescuing and saving the lives of thousands of Spanish refugees from the nearby area. The visitors then toured the rest of the building and saw the library, the exhibition which focuses on refugees in exile, and the archive.

After the guided tour of the Casa Memoria, Andrés accompanied the students and teachers to the cemetery at La Sauceda, which was restored by the Forum for the Memory of the Campo de Gibraltar and the Afresama association and is now the resting place of some of the victims of Franco who were imprisoned and executed at El Marrufo.

Educational visits of this type are a very important part of our project; any teachers who would like to arrange a visit for their pupils are very welcome to contact us by email to asociacioncasadelamemoria@gmail.com or by phone on 624 28 51 56.
