The inauguration took place last week of the Casa de la Memoria in Alcalá del Valle (Cádiz), a town which fell to the Francoist forces on 18 September 1936. The brutal repression there resulted in the deaths of nearly 100 victims and numerous local people were imprisoned or went into exile. There are three mass graves in Alcalá del Valle, called Pareoro, Cascabel and El Baldío.
The inauguration ceremony was opened by journalist Juanmi Baquero, followed by Ana Medina (vice-president of the Mancomunidad de la Sierra de Cádiz), Rafael Aguilera, the mayor of Alcalá del Valle, Sira Rego, the Minister of Youth and Children and writer and professor Antonio Manuel Rodríguez Ramos.
The event ended with a moving performance by writer and singer-songwriter Juan Pinilla.
